The sintering temperature of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics has been lowered to below 980-degrees-C by addition of V2O5. However, excess V2O5 addition has resulted in the unwanted formation of lead vanadates whereas the pyrochlore lead magnesium niobate content decreased. A dielectric constant maximum value, 14000, has been obtained after 1 hr sintering at 980-degrees-C of the specimens doping with 1 mole% V2O5 which has maximum volume fraction of the perovskite Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3. This value is only slightly smaller than that of pure Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics sintered 1 hr at 1250-degrees-C.
