Panoramic content production system for focus+context immersive display

Abstract

The new immersive display systems have emerged in combination with the concept of Focus+Context display as a way to convey high-quality visual content by a focus display and provide strong feeling of immersion via surrounding displays at the same time. In this paper, we propose an efficient panoramic content production system for this type of immersive displays. First of all, we introduce a hybrid camera rig that utilizes two different types of cameras for focus display and peripheral context displays. This rig enables directors to acquire the panoramic content with different resolution depending on the display environment more efficiently than previous solutions. Secondly, our method solves the problem that is occurred when stitching two input videos of our hybrid camera rig due to unique features of these display systems. In these immersive systems, focus video has to be fixed within the high-definition display area. At the same time, panoramic video is aligned to plausibly connect to the focus video while preserving original contents as much as possible. Experimental results show that our content product system offers an efficient panoramic content production solution with good quality of content.
