We report a bulky mesoporous TiO2 structure fabricated by direct consolidation of mesoporous TiO2 powder. The mesoporous TiO2 powder with an interparticular porosity, which synthesized by a surfactant-mediated sol-gel method, was consolidated by spark plasma sintering at 350-600 degrees C. A mesoporous structure in the sintered body was revealed by N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and the maximum surface area of similar to 131 m(2) g(-1) was obtained with a porosity of similar to 44%. Linear grain growth of the primary TiO2 particle size was observed in the bulky mesoporous structure, and the effects of open pores on the grain growth kinetics were discussed.
