We report the vapor phase deposition of carbon nanotubes using a catalytic reaction of tungsten-organic source (C14H10O7W) and acetylene gas. The deposits were high-purity multi-walled carbon nanotubes with a hollow at the tube inside. Transmission electron microscopy study revealed that the inner graphitic layers were highly crystallized but the outer graphitic layers had waving structure. We present the large-scale production of carbon nanotubes using tungsten-based catalyst. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
