Bidentate and tetradentate Schiff base ruthenium(II) complexes has been synthesized by the reaction of [RLiHCl(CO)(PPh3)(2)(B)] (B=PPh3 or pyridine (py) or piperidine (pip) or morpholine (morph)) with appropriate Schiff bases in 1:1 molar ratio. The Schiff base ligands were prepared by condensing S-benzyldithiocarbazate (NH2NHCSSCH2C6H5) with 2,3-butanedione (1:1 and 1:2-molar ratio). Ruthenium(II) complex and the ligands were studied and characterized by elemental analyses and various physico-chenucal methods. The ruthenium complexes were diamagnetic with six-coordinate structures. The ligands and the complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity against three organisms.
