Electric-field-induced commensurate phase in ZrTiO4

With the use of x-ray diffraction, the creation of a new commensurate phase with modulation wave-vector q(0)=26/50a* by the application of a dc electric field along the a axis in ZrTiO4 is demonstrated. The temperature range over which this induced phase exists (12 K at E=8 KV/cm), increases with the increasing dc electric field. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
