The fatigue crack initiation behavior of Al alloys with Mn, especially the pit-to-crack transition stage following the pit growth stage, was investigated by measuring the propagation rate of the crack emanating from the pit in 0.5 M Na2SO4 solution. Experimental results were discussed in terms of the role of Mn in pit-to-crack transition. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
