Constructing a foundation for semantic structure of korean heritage information

Abstract

This paper attempts to build basic conditions for Korean cultural heritage ontology structure using CIDOC CRM (ICOMs International Committee for Documentation Conceptual Reference Model). Issues are derived from the situations in other countries such as Finland, Netherlands, and United Kingdom. Also, heritage information structures on the web in Korea are studied. The existing heterogeneous heritage database is a basis for current heritage web in Korea. In this study, we define the obstacles for Korean heritage portals to operate semantically. In addition, these obstacles are classified into three categories. Lastly, a test is followed in order to verify the efficiency of the proposed solutions. Through this study, the heritage information in Korea could find a way to be semantically interlinked. Consequently, users could acquire knowledge related to heritage more easily and meaningfully.
