Text input in a head-worn display (HWD) will be a common input task for users. However, a de-facto standard has not yet been established for a character input method for an HWD device. There is a limit to using traditional text entry devices (keyboard, touch screen) in the HWD environment. Considering the form factor of HWD, the text input method based on the user's eye gaze movement has the potential to become a standard input method for HWD in the future. However, eye-gaze-based text entry methods have the problem of incorrect input of gaze input and eye fatigue accumulated during gaze input for a long time. Accordingly, in this thesis, the above problems will be solved by combining the touch input with the gaze input. This thesis subdivided the problems as follows. (1) unintentional input problem (Midas-Touch problem) of gaze input, (2) gaze selection inaccuracy problem due to inaccuracy in eye tracking, (3) gaze-touch synchronization problem that occurs as a side effect of the combination of gaze input and touch input, and (4) The problem of fatigue of explicit gaze input. The purpose of this study is to solve the problems for (1) the letter-wise text input method and (2) the word-wise text input method, respectively, and to present an optimized design for each.
