This study contribute to find cost-effective GHG pathways and decarbonization options for Korea’s industrial sector by detailed industries with multi sectoral system interaction to achieve 2050 carbon neutrality goal. Our model results illustrate that the iron and steel, cement, chemical industries will account for 70% of industry sector mitigation in 2050 in order to achieve carbon neutrality. Electrification, hydrogen and biomass energy use, CCS, efficiency improvement, material substitution and recycling play a large role in decarbonization of entire industry sector. However, utilization of these options are differed by detailed industries because of its heterogeneity. In addition, the decarbonization pathways and options of industries are contingent upon interactions with multiple sectors, as well as interactions between themselves. Lastly, limiting CCS technology options requires a faster phase-out of fossil fuel-based technologies in the industrial sector and a rapid transition to clean energy in transformation sectors.
