In recent years, alkali-activated cementitious materials (AACM) have been highlighted as potential alternatives to ordinary Portland cement (OPC) [1,2]. Moreover, AACM exhibits improved thermal stabilities upon exposure to elevated temperatures compared to OPC [1]. Thus, many studies have investigated AACM for thermal resistance composites by considering different curing conditions and mix proportions, and by incorporating thermal insulative fillers[2,3]. In this overview, previous studies regarding utilization of AACM for thermal resistance composites have been reviewed. In addition, a preliminary study on the effects of hollow glass microspheres (HGM) as an improvement on the thermal resistance of alkali-activated fly ash/metakaolin-based composites will be presented [4].
