Combustion of spent vacuum residue hydrodesulfurization (VRHDS) catalyst and paper sludge were carried out in an internally circulating fluidized bed (ICFB) reactor. Individual combustion and co-combustion of VRHDS spent catalyst and paper sludge and $SO_2$ emission from the co-combustion and $SO_2$ reduction characteristics by paper sludge are investigated. For the modeling study, the combustion kinetics of spent vacuum residue hydrodesulfurization (VRHDS) catalyst and paper sludge were investigated in thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and thermobalance reactor. From the TGA -DTG curves, the pre-exponential factors and activation energies are determined at the divided temperature regions and the thermo-gravimetric analysis patterns can be predicted by the kinetic equations. The TGA and DTG curves of VRHDS spent catalyst and the paper sludge can be divided into three and four regions, respectively. The conversion data for char combustion of VRHDS spent catalyst in the thermobalance reactor can be predicted by the modified volume reaction model and the combustion reaction rate of spent catalyst char / $O_2$ can be expressed as: ◁수식 삽입▷(원문을 참조하세요) Hydrodynamic properties and solid circulation rate were determined in a cold internally circulating fluidized bed reactor. The effects of superficial gas velocities to a draft tube, to an annulus section and particle size on the solid circulation rate $(G_s)$ have been determined. The solid circulation rate from the draft tube to an annulus section increases with increasing gas velocities to the draft tube $(U_d)$ and annulus section $(U_a)$ and it decreases with increasing particle size. The pressure drop across the orifice increases with increasing $U_d$ and $U_a$.
