Nowadays, world expands market of eco-friendly vehicles such as EV(electric vehicle), HEV(hybrid electric vehicle) or hydrogen electric vehicles because of energy depletion, rise of oil price and carbon dioxide reduction regulations. So there are many researches about eco-friendly vehicles between academic world and corporations. Especially, there is practicalization study on hybridization of manual transmission vehicle because of high efficiency and low cost. But in hybridization, if we use conventional clutch system, there are problems; Lack of remodeling space, direct manipulation of driver when blocking power. Furthermore, there is starter motor endurance and durability problem due to frequent engine on-offs. Especially in HEVs there already is big traction motor in power train, so we can start the engine from that power source through new clutch design. In this thesis, we study compact and engine starting 'smart clutch' that overcomes such as problems.
