| dc.description.abstract | 1960년대 서울의 도시 공간에 등장한 도자 벽화는 해방 후 건축을 중심으로 한 예술의 종합에 대한 유토피아적 열망과 한국 도예의 현대화 기획이 만나는 지점에서 생산되었다. 1960년대 중반 한시적으로 존재했지만, 모더니즘 건축의 벽면을 장식한 대형 도자 벽화는 건축가와 미술가가 함께 예술의 공공성에 대한 선구적인 인식을 토대로 도시 공간에 기여한 중요한 역사적 사례이다. 이 글은 건축가 김수근과 화가이자 도예가 정규의 협업을 중심으로 벽화의 미술사적, 건축사적 의미를 살펴보았다. 도자 벽화는 화가 정규에게 도예의 새로운 가능성을 실험할 수 있는 무대를 제공했고, 건축가 김수근에게는 노출 콘크리트의 국제주의 건물에 조형성과 지역성을 더해주었다. 필자는 최순우를 중심으로 한 당대의 민예론 속에서 도자 벽화를 논의하고, 나아가 이를 김수근 전통론을 이해하는 길잡이로 삼고자 했다 | - |
