In a complex situation where the means of interaction commonly used in automobiles - blinkers, high beams, and horns - can not be effective, drivers have been communicating using supportive means such as gestures or vehicle speed control. However, in the case of an autonomous vehicle, it is not possible to use the supportive communication performed by the human driver, and therefore there is a possibility of traffic delay in the interaction between the autonomous vehicle and the human driving vehicle. In this study, we develop a means of communication for autonomous vehicles using human hand gestures for overall traffic congestion and safe and active driving of autonomous vehicles.
