Xe-129-NMR, FTIR and XPS have been applied to study the formation, composition and surface structure of zeolite supported platinum-iridium bimetallic cluster. The catalytic properties were tested by n-decane reforming reaction. Both Xe-129-NMR and FTIR of CO adsorbed on metal clusters showed that Ir was decorated on the Pt cluster to form Pt-Ir bimetallic cluster. XPS study indicated that electronic flow from Pt to Ir was not dominant. As Ir content increased, the selectivity to light gas significantly increased in n-decane reforming reaction. This is due to the high cracking activity of Ir decorated on the Pt cluster.
