Pore structures were represented by a two dimensional lattice for bond percolation. Hypotheses of no coalescence and no entrapment were proposed for mercury intrusion and extrusion. A bimodal size distribution with mesopores and macropores was analyzed by considering the extent of overlapping and the sequence of connection between both distributions. The applicability of the hypotheses to a bimodal pore size distribution was demonstrated by showing that experimental data on a-alumina sample could be well correlated. © 1993 Kodansha Ltd.
