Due to the ever growing environmental concerns of soil treatment methods, the use and development of an environmentally friendly soil binder with the use of biopolymers has been studied. With the use of biopolymers, previous studies have shown that the geotechnical properties of various soils are capable of being enhanced. The overall strengthening effects of biopolymer treated soils have been shown to be substantial, with the resulting strength comparable to that of cemented soils. In this study, we discuss the various effects that biopolymer treatment has on sandy soils. The properties of these biopolymer treated soils were mostly determined with compressive tests and direct shear tests.
