REGIOSELECTIVE PHENYLSELENENYLATION AT THE 5-POSITION OF PYRIMIDINE NUCLEOSIDES MEDIATED BY MANGANESE(III) ACETATE

Abstract

5-(Phenylseleno)pyrimidine nucleosides are obtained in high yields by the reaction of pyrimidine nucleosides with manganese (III) acetate and diphenyl diselenide in acetic acid. A selenium electrophile generated by the reaction of manganese(III) acetate with diphenyl diselenide appears to take an important role.
