Radical Chlorination with Hypervalent Iodine(III) Generated by Ligand Exchange: Revisiting Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Directed C-H Chlorination

A simple protocol to generate radical chlorine species by ligand exchange in hypervalent iodine(III) compounds is reported. Radical chlorine species, not electrophilic chlorine species, are required for Pd-catalyzed directed C-H chlorination and ammonium salts can be used as radical chlorine sources.
