This paper concerns with the measuring method of the restraining and the normal force with respect to the various design cases of the circular and the square draw-bead. At first, the restraining and the normal force are measured from the experiments during the drawing process. For the convenient experiment, the decomposed-type die is adopted and installed to
the test machine. To measure the additional data, strain gauges are installed to the face of the male bead. With the constructed experimental system, the forces and the distance are measured with respect to the design case and the draw-bead type. After that, the effect of the design variable and the draw-bead type are evaluated quantitatively based on the measured results. It provides the important information when we design the draw-bead for sheet metal forming process. In order to verify the reliability of the numerical method using finite element analysis, results which are obtained from the experimental and the numerical method are compared with each other. It shows good agreement with each other when the uplift distance is
measured accurately. From the comparison of results, we can conclude that the numerical method can be utilized effectively to measure the restraining and the normal force for arbitrary design cases of the draw-bead.
