This paper presents a new photonic bandgap (PBG) structure with a coplanar waveguide (CPW). The use of slots on the ground prohibits the propagation of the quasi-TEM mode along the CPW line and provides the two characteristics of stopband periodicity and slot-depth dependency of the stopband position. We implement two PBG structures which exhibit good performance with compact size. (C) 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
