A novel linear adaptive minimum mean square error (MMSE) receiver using a hidden training sequence is proposed. The hidden training sequence, which uses a fraction of the informative sequence's transmitting power as a training sequence, is utilised for the adaptation of the receiver. An adaptive algorithm based on the modified canonical representation is also proposed to enhance the convergence rate in the near-far scenario. The performance of the proposed receiver is confirmed through computer simulations.
