dc.description.abstract | Resource allocation is a critical issue for a Radio Network Controller (RNC) system in multimedia wireless networks. This paper deals with resource (channel) allocation strategies for effective utilization of the network resource for voice/data integration. First, based on the Markov chain, a basic model for the performance evaluation of a simplified RNC system was developed that allowed only two types of traffics: voice call and non-voice call. Second, combining two channel assignment policies for the non-voice call with two channel partitioning schemes for the two types of traffics, four resource allocation strategies are presented along with the associated Markovian models. The validity of the models is examined in terms of the blocking probability of the system by comparing the simulation results with each other. Finally, the performance of each strategy is studied under various system parameters. | - |
