Mono-substituted PPV derivatives were synthesized through the water-soluble or the organic soluble precursor methods and their optical properties were characterized. The EL devices were fabricated with mono-substituted PPV derivatives as emitting polymers, and ITO and aluminum as a positive and a negative electrode, respectively. Operating voltages of these devices ranged from 10 to 20 V, and emitting peaks were at about 540 - 590 nm depending on the polymers. Photoluminescence of mono-substituted PPV derivatives were also studied.
