A new surface CW (continuous wave) interference radar having the great advantage of detecting a fine shallow target is presented. The horizontal location of the target submerged in a dissipative half-space may be detected easily by using the symmetry of the measured electric field pattern. A simple relationship between the field pattern and the depth of the target is derived and confirmed with experimental results.-
