A new motion estimation method based on a new segmentation method is proposed. Under a certain condition, image blocks are segmented into two parts of arbitrary shape by a straight line approximation of the object boundary. It is shown by simulation that this method performs better than the typical variable block-size motion by three level quadtree segmentation.-
