Facile oxidation of benzyl ethers by the 2-nitrobenzenesulfonylperoxyl intermediate generated from 2-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride and superoxide
Various benzyl ethers react with a 2-nitrobenzenesulfonylperoxyl radical intermediate generated from 2-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride and potassium superoxide at -25 degrees C in acetonitrile to give the corresponding esters in high yields.
