The hysteresis loop area A of the electric field-optical transmittance curve observed at varying field amplitude E and frequency Omega was observed to show a scaling behaviour of A proportional to (E - E(F))(0.80) g (Omega / (E - E(F))(0.20)), where E(F) Stands for the threshold field of the Freedericksz transition. Separate measurements at low frequencies led to the scaling behaviour as A proportional to (E - EF)(0.64) Omega(0.78) which was found to agree with the asymptotic expansion of the above scaling function g(Omega, E).
