dc.description.abstractSince the properties of rubber toughened epoxy adhesives are much dependent on the environmental temperature, the strength of adhesively-bonded joint should be evaluated with respect to the environmental temperature. Co-cured joints between a composite and a metallic structure are fabricated using both the excess resin produced during cure of composite prepregs and the coupling pressure due to residual thermal stresses generated by the difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between the two materials. Although the excess resin from the composite prepreg is less dependent on the environmental temperature compared to conventional rubber toughened epoxy adhesives, the compressive pressure is much dependent on the environmental temperature. In this study the tensile load capabilities of the co-cured joints composed of carbon fiver epoxy composite and steel adherends were experimentally investigated with respect to stacking angle of the composite and the environmental temperature. Also, the stress distributions in the composite were calculated by finite element method, from which the failure index of the composite adherend was estimated with considering thermal degradation of the composite.-
