NOVEL REGIOSELECTIVE FUNCTIONALIZATION AT THE 5-POSITION OF URACIL DERIVATIVES
Various pyrimidine bases reacted with diethyl malonate in the presence of manganese(III) acetate or Ce(NH4)(2)(NO3)(6) to give 5-(bis(ethoxycarbonyl)acetoxymethyl) pyrimidine nucleosides or 5-(bis(ethoxycarbonyl)methoxymethyl)pyrimidine nucleosides in good yields, respectively.
