A new direct integration method and a hierarchical time adaptive refinement scheme with the fixed step size have been developed. A corresponding error indicator is devised for the:hierarchical refinement. Using the error indicator, the refinement level is determined so that the local error of each time step is within a prescribed tolerance range. The effectiveness of the refinement scheme for the direct integration method is demonstrated through examples.
