It has been found that hexagonal spatial sampling yields smaller quantisation errors. A new hexagonal edge relaxation method is described. In this method, the vertex types of an edge are simple and their classification is reasonable, therefore the overall enhancement of edges is more reliable than the Prager square edge relaxation method [1].
