dc.description.abstractBiological phosphorus removal mechanisms become popular in activated sludge wastewater treatment systems due to their economy and efficiency. The objectives of this paper are to develop the excess phosphorus removal system in a short start-up period and to find the optimal operating conditions. In this experiment, excess phosphorus removal was achieved in a week on the proposed operating method which is to keep substrate zero before the start of aerobic react. The removal rates of both TOC and phosphorus were above 98 % in one week operation. Phosphorus removal bacteria can utilize glucose as well as acetate and also use nitrate as a single electron acceptor. The developed excess phosphorus removal system had good stability against the impact load.-
