An effort for validating and refining an existing knowledge management (KM) stage model was made by a triangulation approach. A survey and a multiple case study were conducted and analyzed based on related literature. Our findings verify the existence of the temporal sequence in KM implementations, validating the KM stage model. In an effort to update the stage model, we propose a new management object, community of practice (COP), which has come to the front of knowledge management issues lately and supplementary managerial actions.en
