Study on content-based hybrid application identification method for BcN services = BcN 서비스에서 콘텐츠 기반 하이브리드 응용 서비스 식별 방법에 대한 연구

Nowadays, emerging BcN (Broadband Convergence Network) applications require QoS guarantee such as VoIP, VoD and IPTV. Traditionally, network providers perform network traffic measurement in order to design networks, fix network problems and perform traffic engineering. In order to monitoring the network, network providers commonly use the passive measurement methods. However, until now passive measurement give very restrict information. Moreover, network providers desire to know QoS parameters and utilization of emerging QoS required services. However, emerging services use un-static port numbers and assign dynamic port numbers. In this reason, it is very hard to identify the applications with classical application identification methods such as port mapping and signature mapping. The port mapping is very inaccurate because emerging services does not use static port numbers, and the signature mapping need lots of resources such as computing time and space to store data. Thus, in order to identify new applications, we need new application identification method. First of all, we focus on the QoS required service using SIP, RTSP and RTP. In order to identify these services, we propose new CHM (Content-based Hybrid Mapping) for identifying the application. The CHM uses hybrid mapping combining protocol mapping and signature mapping based on packet payload contents. However, the protocol mapping causes some errors. Thus, in order to reduce errors due to the protocol mapping, we adopt the weight calculation and grouping mechanism with a Set. Finally, we identify QoS required services precisely with the CHM method. The CHM needs less resource than the signature mapping and gives more accurate identified data than the port mapping.
