Telematics, a compound word with Telecommunications and Informatics, represents a kind of information service which, for example, provides traffic, public transport and emergency information to automobile terminals via mobile communication networks such CDMA and GSM etc. Moreover telematics services make it possible for users to access their necessary information anytime anywhere. TPEG (Transport Protocol Experts Group) is an export group which aims at defining a byte-oriented protocol for transport information broadcast. Transport information includes Road Traffic Messages, Public Transport Information and Location information which enable safe and efficient driving for drivers. TPEG data is to be serviced over DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) so that traffic and travel information can then broadcast to DAB terminals. Recently, Korea begins to start DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) service which is based on MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding), BSAC (Bit Sliced Arithmetic Code.) and MPEG-4 Systems. The DMB has an aim at providing digital broadcasting service to mobile terminals, and utilizes the stream mode of the DAB in order to deliver streaming contents over DAB network. We combine TPEG contents in MPEG-4 Systems as one additional object in addition to the DMB video object (MPEG-4 AVC), audio object (MPEG-4 BASAC). The combination of TPEG content into DMB content allows a unified framework that the association of TPEG data into broadcasting content can be possible. This also leads to the convergence of broadcasting and telematics, which we call Broadtelematics. In this paper, we show a scheme that TPEG is combined into DMB, and exhibit the system implementation and experimental results.
