This thesis presents handoff algorithm for reduce handoff blocking rate in MPLS-based Mobile IP network.
New LSP must be re-established whenever the mobile host changes its location in Mobile IP-based MPLS Network. This condition causes a long handoff latency time and service disruption during handoff. When the mobile host is moved to another cell, but first, handoff request can be rejected because of lack of resource. To provide QoS in the MPLS-based Mobile IP network, it is very important how to reduce handoff drops due to the insufficient bandwidth available in the target region the mobile host want to move to.
In order to solve this problem, we propose handoff algorithm that considers the status of bandwidth in the decision of handoff. If the resource status of target BS that an MH is going to move to is crowed, we apply our proposed handoff algorithm. It has following features; (1) Classify two bandwidth types, the reserved bandwidth and active bandwidth and (2) Separate reservation phase from the handoff execution phase. From the numerical analysis, we show our proposed handoff algorithm reduces the handoff blocking probability without increasing new connection blocking probability and decreasing bandwidth utilization.
