dc.description.abstract | Ethernet technologies are rapidly becoming a dominant solution for carrier networks. Protection mechanism is the most vital issue for the successful deployment of Ethernet ring. A study group at ITU-T is developing the Ethernet ring protection standard. We analyze the traffic behavior and link capacity requirements of Ethernet ring protection using FDB flush mechanism. We present an alternative protection scheme including multi-ring scenario in which an Ethernet MAC filtering database (FDB) is actively managed to provide optimized protection traffic patterns on failure utilizing APS (Automatic Protection Switching) messaging. We also present the Do-not revert mechanism of Ethernet ring protection mechanism which is very simple and requires no extra messaging information. | eng |
