The method for the renormalization in a softly broken supersymmetric gauge theory using the supergraph method is reviewed. Using an external spurion field technique, Feynman rules for the softly broken supersymmetric theory are derived in the context of the supergraph method and the explicit relation between the ultraviolet counterterms in the softly broken and the exact supersymmetric theories is found. The renormalization constant of the softly broken supersymmetric theory is that of the exact supersymmetric theory with the coupling constants redefined. The renormalization group equations for the softly broken supersymmetric theory are derived and explicitly calculated in the general case.
