dc.description.abstractThe Low Energy Electron Detector(LEED), which can measure the flux and analyze the energy spectrum of electrons in the auroral region, has been designed for instrumentation on board the KITSAT-B that is scheduled for launch on the 1st of September, 1993. It consistes of 4 parts : an electrostatic analyzer which analyzes the energy spectra of incident electrons, a spiraltron electron multiplier which detects electrons and makes the signal for each incident electron to be counted, high voltage power supplies for the electrostatic analyzer and the spiraltron electron multiplier, and the electronic circuits for the signal processing and the interface to the satellite. It detects electrons up to 6650 eV in 16 steps with resolution of 20\% (FWHM). Each step is 0.1 sec and sampling is made only during the last half of each step. Reset period of 1.6 sec comes after 1.6 sec sweep before the next sweep starts. The geometrical factor that relates the number of particles detected during the sampling time to the differential incident flux is $1.8 \times 10^{-5} cm^2\; sr$.eng
