Methanol conversion was carried out over SAPO-34 catalysts at 400 degreesC and 1 arm to investigate the selectivity of the hydrocarbon products. SAPO-34 catalysts with different Si/Al ratios were modified by (hydro)thermal treatments, ammonia preadsorption, and/or TEOS CVD to change their catalytic properties. The change in acidity induced by these treatments did not seem to produce any significant changes in activity and selectivity, however the reaction parameters, including the partial pressure of methanol and presence of water in the feed, were found to influence the hydrocarbon product distribution by increasing the C-2 (especially ethene) selectivity.
