In the global effort to reduce $CO_2$ emissions, one innovation has been the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, consisting mainly of the $CO_2$ capture, $CO_2$ transport and $CO_2$ storage segments. The aim of this study was to determine an optimal CCS design solution from the viewpoint of the integrated chain, wherein each segment is continuous and performs as a supply chain. In the commercialization of CCS, related technologies in each segment should be integrated; thus, the goal here was to find an optimal solution by considering the relations between the technologies in each CCS chain segment. An economic analysis and an optimization process were performed to yield an optimal design by minimizing a cost function. The results of this analysis can play a major role in decision making regarding the core technologies applied in the further commercialization of CCS technology.
