dc.description.abstractModal testing and Structural Dynamics Modication techniques are developed to be applied to dynamic modification of machine tool structures. The techniques consist of identification of modal parameters, modelling of structures, and appropriate modification with the aid of sensitivity analysis and computer simulation. A milling machine and a lathe are two successful examples to demonstrate the power of the techniques. In the applications, it is shown that the chatter mode is easily identified and its amplitude is reduced to some extent through simple modification of the structures.eng
