A coal gasifier is an important reactor to produce syngas from coal. In order to predict the performance of the gasifier process simulation and CFD simulation for the gasifier have been achieved. Specially, gasifier process simulations related to IGCC plant simulation have been based on an equilibrium calculation. From the advantages and disadvantage of the equilibrium model the necessity of an advanced model is proposed. This study proposes a Discrete Reactor Segment Model(DRSM) based on simple kinetics
The DRSM simplifies a gasifier to three reaction groups as the relative magnitude of reaction rates. The reactions in the gasifier are categorized to devolatilization, heterogeneous reactions and homogeneous reactions. Rates of each reaction groups simplify as reasonable assumptions and limitations and the composition of syngas is obtained the calculation of reaction rates. The composition of produced syngas and carbon conversion is calculated as the change of input conditions and a qualitative analysis is executed. From the qualitative analysis the application of the DRSM is considered.
