dc.description.abstractI studied a new mixed finite element based on the Raviart-Thomas element which gives optimal order in the H(div)-norm. Former RT element cannot yield an optimal order error in the H(div)-norm. Optimal order error in the H(div)-norm is very significant when dealing with problems related to elasticity, electronics among others. I present the conditions for optimal order error in the H(div)-norm. Numerical experiments are also presentedeng
