In order to show the security of block cipher, there are many attacks such Differential and Linear attacks. In particular, the concern with the potential for algebraic attacks has been growing recently. In algebraic attack, the attacker expresses the encryption transformation as a set of multivariate polynomial equations and attempts to recover the encryption key by solving the system. ARIA is a general-purpose involutional SPN block cipher which is approved as a Korea Standard. In this paper we define small scale variants of the ARIA which inherit the design features of the ARIA. We will apply algebraic attack to the small scale variants of the ARIA. In particular, we provide some preliminary results and insights when using off-the-shelf computational algebra techniques to solve the systems of equations arising from these small scale variants.
