dc.description.abstractThis thesis considers the problem of establishing a job sequencing in analytical manner for various products at a final assembly shop in a JustIn-Time (JIT) production system. Under a JIT environment, where all the necessary products needed to be produced only in the necessary quantities at their required times, it is very important to keep all parts a constant consumption rate in the assembly system. For the problem, a measure of usage variability is considered as represented in an autocorrelation of part usage proportional to the sum of squares of deviations of cumulative part requirements for products. The problem formulation is made to have a minimal objective function to be controlled by minimizing the maximum deviation of usage variability for each part. A heuristic procedure is then derived by employing a pairwise interchange rule. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the algorithm.eng
