Richmond``s technique for the forward scattering problem is modified to apply to the inverse scattering problem in the reconstruction of distributions of the dielectric constants on unknown objects. Objects are divided into N cells and the complex relative dielectric constant of each cell is calculated from the scattered field data outside the object. This problem has the ill-posed nature, as usual in inverse problems. Illposedness of the problem is described from various points of view. Several methods of regularization are discussed with the computer simulation results.
