A new CT system, PLF (Parallel Linear Fan-beam sys-tem), is proposed, which is designed to eliminate ring artifact occurred in Rotating Fan system and to give higher spatial resolution by finer sampling, therefore to improve the spatial resolution without increasing the number of detectors.
Simulations for this system were mainly focused on the elimination of the ring artifact and the improvement of the spatial resolution for CT image. The image reconstruction for higher spatial resolution was attempted by overlap-sampling with fixed detector width.
The results show that PLF system provides the improved apatial resolution, compared with Rotating Fan system of the same number of detectors, and a ring-artifact-free image. In addition, the pentagonal shape with odd. number of linear scanning segments allows faster scanning than the conventional Translate & Rotate system. The results of computer simulations are given and the proposed. PLF system is compared with other systems from several viewpoints.
